Meet Bareera Amjad
Who Am I
I’m a mother, an educator, and the founder of SMARTROOTS LEARNING. For most of my adult life, I did what most of us are taught to do: I focused on my family, trusted the systems around me, and assumed that responsible living was enough to build financial security. It wasn’t.

What Changed, And Why This Site Exists
At 50, I found myself starting over. Not a dramatic overnight collapse, more like a slow realization that the financial ground I thought I was standing on wasn’t as solid as I’d believed. That experience changed how I read, how I research, and what I think financial writing is actually for.
Monetary Leaf came out of that period. I wanted to build something that explained money clearly, not to people who already have a financial planner, but to the ones sitting at the kitchen table trying to make sense of a renewal notice, a mortgage statement, or a grocery bill that’s gone up for the third month in a row.
My Perspective and Where It Comes From
I’m based in Pakistan, with deep family ties to Canada and Australia. That cross-border perspective shapes how I write. I approach Canadian financial topics as an outside observer with insider motivation, I have skin in the game because the people I care about most are living these realities.
How Every Article Here Is Researched
Every article on Monetary Leaf is built from primary sources: Statistics Canada, FSRA, the Bank of Canada, RIBO, and government publications. I don’t publish what sounds right. I publish what I can verify, with the source linked so you can check it yourself.
This site is not financial advice. It’s financial clarity — the kind that helps you ask better questions before you make a decision.
